Description
Description | GenAI4Schools: Empowering Schools to Explore Generative AI, is a three-year project led by a consortium of ministries, universities, research centres, and private sector, bringing together France, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Slovenia and Spain. It aims to model effective and ethical human-AI (HAI) interactions and uses of GenAI to empower secondary schools in the systemic adaptation to GenAI technologies while enhancing human-centred teaching and learning. The introduction of GenAI in education has raised questions around pedagogies, learning, knowledge, assessment and fears of teachers being replaced. While GenAI could have the potential to significantly leverage teachers and learners' practices, schools are exploring ways to address this shift in both ethical and effective ways. It is crucial to examine why and how GenAI tools should be used in classrooms to benefit both teaching and learning. To meet this need, GenAI4Schools investigates effective GenAI practices in secondary schools (pupils aged 13+). We will map how teachers are integrating GenAI into their subjects and examining the ways in which both teachers and pupils interact with it, to identify the enabling or blocking factors for its effective use in education. Then, we will draft HAI interaction models, provide theoretical material and develop a GenAI playbook with practical use cases and implementation support. The practices and models will be tested in a safe and controlled environment in the seven countries and evaluated by participants. The project will culminate in a dissemination and upscaling phase featuring national and international multiplier events to promote the final deliverables to teachers, pupils, parents, schools, school leaders and policy makers. With the support of the ministries, it promotes effective GenAI practices to strengthen human agency and harness the potential of GenAI to support human-centred approaches to teaching and learning. |
