Description
Description | This project aims to promote gender equality within Kenyan universities through the development and implementation of tailored Gender Equality Plans (GEPs). The primary objectives are to assess the current status of gender equality across Kenyan universities, identify gaps and challenges, and co-create GEPs that reflect both international best practices and local contexts. By adopting a participatory approach, the project will engage key stakeholders—including faculty, staff, administrators, and students—in a collaborative process to ensure that the GEPs are context-specific, relevant, and actionable. To achieve these objectives, the project will focus on capacity-building activities such as training of trainers, the development of gender-responsive workshops, and the creation of online learning platforms. These initiatives will equip university staff, administrators, and students with the skills and knowledge necessary to lead gender mainstreaming efforts within their institutions. Additionally, the project will establish robust monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to track the progress of GEP implementation, ensuring sustainability and impact. The project’s relevance to the work program lies in its alignment with global and local priorities for gender equality in higher education. It addresses key challenges outlined in the work program, such as the need for capacity-building in gender-sensitive governance and the creation of inclusive, equitable academic environments. By fostering a culture of gender equality and inclusion, the project contributes to the broader goal of enhancing educational quality, equity, and access for all, with a particular focus on women and underrepresented groups in Kenyan universities. |
