Gender Responsability and Equality in Watersports

Because it's society photography, women are rare in sports bodies. Sometimes far from the field, they are above all far from the Boards of Directors of sports associations. With only two women presidents of national water sports federations in the countries of the Atlantic Arc, the question of women leaders is a major issue. This proves how women are kept out of sport as a whole and more specifically in water sports. This is why, from September 2020, the Regional Olympic and Sports Committee of Pays de la Loire with the Real Federación Española de Salvamento y Socorrismo, the Câmara Municipal de Viana do Castelo and the Atlantic Water Sports Committee have decided to initiate the Gender Equality and Responsibility in Water Sports (GREW) Project. The objective of this project is to support the feminization of sports governing bodies and to promote the civic engagement of women in water sports. This project was imagined so that, tomorrow, the question of women's sport will no longer be one so that we can simply take care of sport without talking about gender issues. To be daring, you have to highlight engaging initiatives or life paths. The “G.R.E.W. ATLANTIC” should make it possible to launch a dynamic through various actions built for and with an audience of female leaders and future leaders. In particular, it aims to: • Organize transnational meetings to share knowledge and expertise and promote cultural exchanges. • Identify good practices in terms of gender equality in sports governing bodies and adapt them to water sports. • Define recommendations aimed at promoting the involvement of women in water sports bodies. • Implement these recommendations in the water sports organizations identified under the project. Disseminate these recommendations and all the results to water sports stakeholders and raise awareness among the 400 clubs of the various members of the consortium
