Description

Description

Stowarzyszenie Velvet Spoon is a film distribution company established in 2018. We cooperate with over 100 arthouse and local cinemas in Poland, many of them being part of Europa Cinemas, and 3 biggest cinema chains in Poland (Cinema City, Multikino and Helios). Velvet Spoon is a relatively small, boutique distribution company that focuses mainly on elevated genre films with interesting artistic vision - directed mostly by young and bold filmmakers. We are mostly known from distributing films that transcend genre boundaries and from custom artistic posters prepared for every release. We aim to release theatrically 6 to 10 films every year, however it wasn’t possible during the lockdown period. Since 2018 we have released theatrically 24 feature films, of which 11 (46%) were European productions or co-productions and 5 were fully national films. Most notable titles from our theatrical slate are “Hatching”, “The Lost Daughter”, “Swallow”, “The Truth” and “Monument”. We are also the organizers of Octopus Film Festival, which takes place every August in Gdańsk, Poland, where we show new European films as a part of the Main Competition. In the realm of the project, during the 24 months, we plan to purchase the rights to six European full-length films and partially finance their introduction to the screens of Polish cinemas (P&A costs).
