Description

Description

The objective is the generation of a potential fund for reinvestment into minimum guarantees and P&A costs for new non-national European films. Beta Cinema acquires around 15 feature films per year, national German films as well as non-national European films and occasionally films from outside of Europe with a strong international market potential, commercial viability and artistic value. We are focusing on accessible storylines with strong cross-over potential to wide European audiences and the potential to reach new audiences in Europe and around the globe. We are working with established partners and talents, but we are open to emerging talents and unconventional stories. In our acquisitons decisions we make it a priority that the productions respect the European and the European film industry’s objectives: climate-neutral and resource-efficient productions, new digital technologies, diversity and gender balance, justice and a rules-based global order. The funds generated in this application will be reinvested into the minimum guarantee of new films and will enable us to eventually also acquire worldwide rights to internationally more competitive, major productions with a higher budget and to spend money on the creation of promotional materials such as ads, international poster, promo reels, trailer, epk, social media campaigns. We acquire small, medium and major productions depending on the content, cast and crew and the international potential. The fund enables us to be most competitive on the scales of projects in regards to its acknowledged filmmakers, budgets and track records, but also to discover and support emerging talent and this can result in exceptionally strong output. Recent European films such as “Woman at War”, “Nowhere Special” or “I’m Your Man” were each sold to over 60 territories worldwide, including important non-European markets. Promotion materials are conceived to be internationally adapted easily and are free of charge for distributors.
