Description

The Genting Sanyen IPP is a 720-MW (700-MW + 20-MW) base-load plant. A 21-year power puchase agreement that included fixed and variable charges and a fuel pass through provision was signed with Tenaga (TNB) which will expire in 2015. A fuel supply agreement was signed with Petronas. The plant also supplies the Genting Sanyen paper mill. An IPP license was granted to the project company in July 1993 and construction began in December 1994. The plant began service in January 1996. Shareholders were the local Genting Group, through their 97.7%-owned subsidiary Mastika Lagenda Sdn Bhd (40%), British Gas (20%), Worldwide Holdings (20%), and state-owned Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) (20%). In March of 2003, Genting Bhd completed the acquisition of TNB's 20% stake for US$64 million, bringing its interest in Genting Sanyen Power Station to just under 60%. The debt-to-equity ratio was 70:30. Except for foreign equity participation, the project was almost entirely financed domestically. None None
