Description

Description

The aim of the work requested by the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough is to reduce traffic speed and protect vulnerable road users on Rivard Street between Boucher and Bibaud streets. The project is part of a long-term programme to improve road safety in the borough. Rivard Street is a local residential road bordered on both sides by major arterial roads, namely St-Denis Street and Laurier Avenue East. Residents, parents at Laurier primary school and users of the St Denis Community Centre, among others, have requested various measures to make the street safer and mitigate the negative impacts of traffic through the 311 telephone request system. The redevelopment of Boucher Street between Henri-Julien and Resther streets, and including the intersections with Drolet, Saint-Denis, Rivard and Berri streets, is a project designed to reduce vehicle speeds and protect vulnerable road users in order to increase active transportation in the area. The project is part of a long-term programme to improve road safety in the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough. Boucher Street is a local residential thoroughfare bordered on both sides by major arterial roads such as St-Denis Street, St-Grégoire Street and Laurier Avenue East. The borough is proposing to use strategies that have proven effective in previous projects to reduce user exposure to collisions and injuries and improve walking comfort. The proposed intervention aims to reduce risk factors by making pedestrian routes safer, improving visibility between different users, reducing vehicle speeds, widening pavements, adding planting pits with trees, reducing on-street parking, improving signage and reducing the volume of vehicles on the street.
