The project involves a massive overhaul of the George R. Brown Convention Center and the construction of a new 700,000-square-foot secondary convention building adjacent to the existing center. The overhaul includes cutting a promenade through the existing building to connect the east side of downtown to Discovery Green, embracing sustainable timber and rooftop green spaces, and creating flexible indoor/outdoor spaces. The new building will feature two exhibition halls, a multipurpose hall, an atrium flex hall, contiguous exhibit space, the largest ballroom in Texas, and dedicated retail and restaurant spaces. The project aims to keep the existing facility operational during renovations and is expected to generate billions in economic impact.
