Description
Description | Georgia Power's pipeline of large-load customers, including data centers, decreased by 6 GW. The utility is seeking to add about 10 GW of new capacity to its fleet over the next five years. The total pipeline of economic development projects through the mid-2030s fell by 5.5 GW to about 53.5 GW, with about 50.9 GW representing large-load projects such as data centers. The utility reported a net decrease of 6,000 MW in large-load projects during the quarter due to projects exiting and entering the pipeline and modifications in projected load. The near-term winter 2028-29 large-load customer pipeline decreased by about 1.4 GW to 24.4 GW. The portfolio of large-load customers committed to service grew by about 2.2 GW to around 11 GW across 28 customers, with 18 having broken ground and 10 pending construction. Regulators have warned of stranded costs from speculative projects and suggested limiting forecasts to projects with executed contracts to minimize risk to ratepayers. |
