Geosite Infrastructure & Interpretation

The project will include improvements to the Whistler Global Geological site (Geosite) park including new viewing platforms and interpretive signage for four sites of global geological significance. New trails will be added and parking will be improved. This Global Geological site (Geosite) development aligns with the community plan and supports the expansion of the recent overcrowding of Whistler’s parks and trails. The Sea to Sky region is experiencing growing impacts as a destination success: ballooning crowds in towns, on the mountains, at lakes, on trails, in campgrounds, and in the backcountry. Social and cultural trends are also increasing the number of visitors to the region as recorded by automated trail counters and public surveys. This Global Geological site development would be a welcome addition to the region and support both the Whistler community and the many visitors to this region. The project works will include: - Four new site developments for four global geological significance sites; - Trail development both new and improvements to Sea to Sea to Sky Trail; - Construction of four viewing platforms; - Site preparation at four locations; - Expanded parking; - Interpretive panels; and, - Related works.
