Description
Description | Authoritative geospatial data on the road networks and infrastructure in Slovenia are currently not applicable to road network analysis, and consequently, no institution in Slovenia is capable of providing information on population mobility regarding the distance and travel time at lower territorial levels or considering the entire population rather than samples. SURS has often been addressed by the users (e.g. the Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy, research community) to provide such data since statistical data sources containing various point-based locations of the population are managed by SURS. To meet the user needs, the project's first objective is to open a new chapter in cooperation with the national producers of authoritative geospatial data that will result in an integrated geospatial dataset of the routable road networks for Slovenia. This geospatial dataset will be integrated during the project with statistical data on persons in employment, upper secondary school students and tertiary students to calculate the distance and travel time to a place of work or education. Besides the point-to-point distance and time travel calculation, the road network will also be used to calculate point-to-polygon distance and travel time to assess the accessibility of green areas. The specific objective of this task is to enhance the current buffer-based air distance between a place of residence and green areas and improve the quality of this Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicator. To achieve the project's best and most widely applicable results, SURS foresees the organisation of two workshops. The proposed methodology would be discussed with data providers, users and the research community at the beginning of the project, and the second workshop would be dedicated to presenting the project results and gathering feedback and suggestions for potential project follow-up activities. |
