Description

Description

In the winter of 2023, the museum had to close its doors for almost three (3) weeks due to a major heating breakdown. This affected the conservation work on the heritage collections, and deprived the public of cultural and educational activities in the middle of the off-season. After 12 years of operation, the health check carried out on the heating and air-conditioning system, which includes a geothermal system, concluded that a major upgrade was required to ensure its longevity for years to come. The first step was to improve the performance of the building envelope in order to save energy. Subsequently, an increase in auxiliary power will be required to relieve around 40% of the overloaded geothermal units in the friable soil of the archipelago. The new auxiliary system will comprise overhead VRV (Variable Refrigerant Volume) units to complement the geothermal system.
