Description | KenGen, alongside China's Kaishan Group, have broken ground on the world's first geothermal-powered green fertilizer plant in Olkaria, Naivasha. The project will harness 165 megawatts of geothermal energy to produce up to 300,000 tonnes of ammonia-based fertilizer annually. The plant is designed to run entirely on renewable power and is projected to offset more than 600,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually while generating about KSh 2 billion in yearly net profit for KenGen. It aims to reduce Kenya's dependence on imported fertilizer, stabilize input costs, and create around 2,000 jobs across construction, operations, and supply chains. |
