Geraldton Water Line Rehabilitation Phase II

The objective of this project is to reline old 6" cast-iron water lines in the Municipal drinking water distribution system. As part of a demonstration phase to determine effectiveness, the Municipality engaged a contractor to re-line 1km of the mainline with cement. In 2013 and 2014, the Municipality completed Phase I of the program (7 km). The results were 100% effective at eliminating the issues noted above and have extended the life of the pipe by upwards of 40 years. Tasks include setting up a temporary mainline bypass to maintain the water supply to homes, accessing, cleaning and lining the pipes, and site rehabilitation. Cement lining is highly effective at preventing corrosion and extending the life of a structurally sound water main upwards of 40 years. The Municipality proposes to undertake Phase II its rehabilitation efforts. Phase II will focus on the areas currently in most urgent need of repair. This project will enable the Municipality to rehabilitate roughly 4 km of deteriorating water lines in the following areas (please see attached map).
