Description
Description | The FC project aims to provide around 1 million people in the project areas with a more reliable, safe and affordable water supply by 2025. The project sponsor is the Palestinian Water Authority (PWA). The project region includes the population of the city of Gaza and the communities of Beit Lahia and Jabalia in northern Gaza. The water resources available in the project region are to be used as best as possible by blending extracted freshwater with the largely highly saline groundwater in order to improve the drinking water supply and quality for the population. The infrastructure measures required for this include conversion work on existing groundwater wells and their connection to existing or planned water reservoirs; expansion or new construction of the transport system to expand water imports from Israel for the northern Gaza Strip; Expansion, rehabilitation and new construction of structures for water distribution, storage and blending of contaminated groundwater with fresh water from the small-volume existing northern desalination plant as well as operational support and training measures. The total cost of these measures is expected to amount to 55.6 million euros. |
