Description | Germany has opened the second round of its Carbon Contracts for Difference (CCfD) scheme with a budget of €5 billion. The program offers industries subsidies per tonne of avoided CO2 over 15 years to encourage electrification, carbon capture, and the use of hydrogen or its derivatives. Companies can bid for 15-year contracts where the government pays the difference between CO2 prices on the EU Emissions Trading Scheme and a strike price bid by industrial users. Projects must reduce emissions by at least 50% by the fourth year and be capable of 85% reduction in the future. Applications close on 7 September 2026. |
