Ghana - Health Services Rehabilitation Project I

The Health Services Rehabilitation Project I is in line with the priorities of the Ghanaian Government. It’s designed to enable three hospitals located in Accra, Kumasi and Sekondi/Takoradi to provide the tertiary health care necessary to support Primary Health Care (PHC) services provided by secondary hospitals in the project hospital district. The project is expected to provide access to "Health for All Ghanaians" through the provision of basic health care to 80% of the population by the year 2000. It includes the following components: (a) renovation of the Korle Bu and Komfo Anokye University Hospitals and Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital; (b) strengthening of hospital management capacity; (c) support for the PHC programme (mainly the Expanded Programme on Immunization); and (d) establishment of a project implementation unit.
