The project is carried out as a cooperation project for the Sami Parliamentary Council, i.e. the Sami Parliament in Finland, Sweden and Norway. The coordinating beneficiary of the project and formally responsible for the implementation of the project is the Sami Parliament in Finland and the participating parties are the Sami Parliament in Sweden and Norway. During the project duration of Giellagáldu, the aim is to complete the reorganisation of the Sámi cross-border language cooperation that began during the previous project, Sáfá2, by making the operation of Sami Giellagáldu the Sami trade and resource centre permanent. The project aims to secure the future of the Sami languages and to strengthen and promote the use of the Sami languages in different language uses. This task is carried out by the Centre’s linguists and language departments for the five different Sami languages: South, Lule, North, United and School Sámi. During the project period, the Sami Trade and Resource Centre has the following tasks: language management, language development, terminology work, name service, place names, information activities on Sámi language trade issues and advice on Sami languages to language users. The project aims to ensure that, in particular, the terminology and norms that have been developed during the project period will be used by actively informing the Sami language users about these. During the project period, it will also be examined whether ume- and pitesamic and the Sami languages spoken in Russia should be included in language cooperation. The goal is for speakers to easily find technical knowledge related to Sami languages such as terms, standardisation and so on in digital form on the internet. During this project, the idea is to renew the website www.giella.org and create new web pages from the perspective of users.
