GIRE DU BASSIN DU FLEUVE KAYANGA-GEBA

The joint project of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) of the Kayanga-Geba Basin aims to improve the knowledge of Kayanga resources and the establishment of basic tools for integrated and concerted transboundary management of water resources in order to enable local populations to live in harmony with their environment and to ensure their sustainable development. The project fits perfectly into the missions of the AWE and the OMVG in terms of IWRM. It enables the creation of a favorable institutional and technical environment for organizing integrated and to promote the development of cooperation between different users. The project consists of the following components: (i) Development of the IWRM Plan in the river catchment area; (ii) Preparation of studies for the hydro-agricultural exploitation of water resources of Geba in Guinea Bissau; (iii) Strengthening the technical and institutional capacities of OMVG and the Member States; (iv) Management of project implementation. Its execution will last 23 months and the corresponding investments are estimated at 1 803 000 Euros. At the end of the project, OMVG will organize a Round Table of Donors in order to mobilize the necessary financing for the implementation of the IWRM Action Plan and the hydro-agricultural development program.
