Description
Description | GLARE (Gaze, Live Art, Research & Engagement) is a transnational small-scale cooperation project led by Hangartfest (Italy) with Teater Nu (Sweden) and RedSapata Tanzfabrik (Austria). It investigates the gaze — human and algorithmic — as a lens for artistic research, inclusive practice, and critical reflection. Grounded in contemporary dance and body-based approaches, the project explores how the gaze shapes perception, movement, and social presence. GLARE is structured around three research phases: OSOM (Austria) addresses visibility and fluid identity; Playlist (Sweden) explores media saturation and visual imagination among youth; ZEKANI (Italy) focuses on algorithmic gaze, surveillance, and digital embodiment. Each phase includes a 20 days residency, two participatory Gaze Labs with local communities, a public sharing, and an online reflection. At the core of the project is AtlasGaze, a digital platform that functions as a live archive, collecting insights, visual materials, and documentation across the phases. GLARE prioritises innovation through method: it develops a transferable, body-based framework for artists, educators, and researchers to work with the gaze in diverse social and pedagogical contexts. The consortium brings together choreographers, technologists, cultural operators, and theorists — fostering dialogue across disciplines and geographies. Outcomes include three performative works, a final international gathering, an open-access digital publication, and a shared methodology that bridges artistic creation, digital awareness, and inclusive engagement. GLARE builds a lasting infrastructure to reflect on how we see, how we are seen, and how perception can become a tool for equity, attention, and transformation in Europe. |
