Description | The Alaska Department of Transportation is planning a project to protect portions of the Glenn Highway and Old Glenn Highway affected by erosion from the Matanuska River. The project targets damaged or high-risk sections between mileposts 13 and 17 of the Old Glenn Highway and between mileposts 16 and 80 of the Glenn Highway. The project is in the preliminary design and environmental phase, with surveying and information gathering underway to inform the design process. Construction is planned to start in 2026 with a second stage estimated in 2030. The project aims to install armor rock between the highway and the river to prevent further erosion. |
