Description

Description

The Global Climate Partnership Fund (GCPF) is a global climate protection fund set up by the Federal Environment Ministry and KfW. It promotes investments in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable energies and greenhouse gas reduction worldwide, primarily through the local financial sector. The fund invests globally and is currently active in 29 countries. The key challenges of the 21st century include energy security and global climate protection. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the share of fossil fuels in the global energy supply will be over 80 percent in 2030. In developing and transition countries, energy consumption will increase significantly due to sustained economic growth - with negative consequences for the environment. This will contribute significantly to regional air pollution and further increase global greenhouse gas emissions. KfW's support for investment financing in energy efficiency and renewable energies will reduce energy intensity in developing countries, which will not only reduce CO2 emissions but also improve the international competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises in the target countries. In addition, the fund makes a valuable contribution to improving lending in this sector, as most of the funding is provided through local financial institutions.
