Description

Description

Core problem 800 million people are already starving. Agricultural plant production is essential to feeding the growing world population. At the same time, climate change will continue to progress and significantly change the framework conditions for plant-based food production. Plant genetic diversity can provide scope for action through the breeding of adapted varieties. Module goal The aim of the project is to make a contribution to long-term food security through the conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources. To this end, the existing World Trust Fund for Crop Diversity will be endowed with FC funds. Key outputs Capital income generated from the capital fund will be made available to selected regional/international seed banks to finance operating costs. Target group The target group in the narrower sense are the users of the seed banks (national research institutions, breeders, seed multipliers). The target group in the broader sense is the world population, particularly the rural population in developing countries. Contribution to the national implementation of Agenda 2030 (not in the MV) The measures therefore contribute to Goal 2.5 Preserving genetic diversity for sustainable development and thus to the implementation of Agenda 2030.
