Description

Description

Core problem 800 million people are already starving. Agricultural plant production is essential to feeding the growing world population. At the same time, climate change will continue to progress and significantly change the framework conditions for plant-based food production. Plant genetic diversity can provide scope for action through the breeding of adapted varieties. Module objective The aim of the project is to make a contribution to long-term food security through the conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources. To this end, the existing World Trust for Crop Diversity will be provided with FC funds. Key outputs Increased efficiency in the operation of the World Trust for Crop Diversity; long-term provision of funds by the World Trust for Crop Diversity; improved operation and management of seed banks. Target group The target group are the users of the supported seed banks. Preserving the global good of crop diversity serves to secure food supplies for the world population. It therefore represents the target group in the broader sense. Contribution to the national implementation of Agenda 2030 (not in the MV) The project therefore contributes to the goals of 1 permanently ending poverty in all its forms everywhere, 2 ending hunger and creating food security, 3 promoting health and well-being for all, 13 taking action to combat climate change and 15 protecting ecosystems and halting biodiversity loss for sustainable development and thus to the implementation of Agenda 2030.
