Description | The world's largest civil hospital ship, named Global Mercy, is being delivered with a delay of over three years. It is constructed at the Tianjin Xingang shipyard in China, developed by Finnish naval engineering firm Deltamarin with technical advice from Stena RoRo. The ship will have hospital areas covering two decks with five operating rooms and 199 beds, doubling the capacity of the Africa Mercy ship. It is 37,000 gross tons, 174 m in length, and powered by a diesel-electric system, accommodating about 600 volunteer crew and medical staff. The ship is expected to begin its first health campaign in West Africa at the end of 2021. |
