Description
Description | "The creation of GLOPE at the LSE’s European Institute aims to position the department as a global hub for EU studies. By internationalizing teaching, research, and outreach, GLOPE strives to become a conduit for the EU's public diplomacy towards third countries. As a global actor, the EU must communicate its principles and objectives to a global audience. However, due to its inward-looking focus and complexity, EU studies lacks in appeal and accessibility for non-European students. To be effective vectors of EU public diplomacy, it is important to address this disconnect and signal the relevance of EU studies to an international student body. GLOPE moves beyond Eurocentric perspectives and complements existing JMCs with special reference to teaching, research, and outreach. Teaching: Restructuring and enrichment of core MSc courses by mainstreaming a global perspective on EU matters. Introduction of an executive module on informal politics in the EU catering to practitioners from third countries. Research: Introduction of a Jean Monnet Travel Award for doctoral students and organization of an ""International Perspectives on EU Studies"" workshop to facilitate global participation. Aimed to enhance EU studies global outlook, fostering an inclusive academic environment. Outreach: Annual public events on ""Global Dialogues on Europe,"" promoting discourse on the EU's evolving global position, and a dedicated JMC website serving as a central platform for project information, ensuring accessibility and transparency. Leveraging Dr. Kleine’s role as an experienced educator and the department’s vast expertise in project management and outreach, GLOPE targets a variety of key audiences, including MSc and executive students from third countries, PhD students and EU scholars from third countries, and policymakers and practitioners in EU affairs worldwide.
