This expansion contributed to the global cumulative renewable energy capacity exceeding 5,000GW, with solar PV accounting for 2,391GW of operational capacity. The growth was concentrated mainly in China, the US, and the EU, which accounted for 79.5% of new renewable capacity installations. The Middle East also saw significant growth, with over 12GW of new solar capacity added between 2024 and 2025, driven notably by Saudi Arabia and projects like the 349MW solar PV project commissioned by Egyptian firm Elsewedy Electric. |
