Description
Description | The winding metal road to the old Globe Hill mine site in the Victoria Forest Park was built by Oceana Gold in 2006 to access its open-cast operation. The road was to be removed after mining ended as per the concession agreement with DOC, which also included restoration and building new walking and cycling tracks. Locals are urging DOC to retain the $10 million road as it is a key piece of infrastructure and important for access, especially for people with diverse mobility needs. A community trust has been set up to sustain the road long term, with a local contractor ready to maintain it. |
