Description

Description

In August 2006, the Brazilian company Brentech Energia S.A. was granted an authorization to build a 140-MW thermal power plant located in the state of Goiania (municipality of Aparecida de Goiania). Brentech Energia S.A. signed a 35-year contract with the federal regulatory agency ANEEL allowing the company to operate in the electricity market as a independent producer. This authorization granted the sponsor with the right to sell electricity in the Brazilian wholesale market. The power plant was set to use diesel as fuel. Brentech Energia S.A. was established as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Breco Energia. In 2007, Brenco sold its shares in the project company to state-owned Petrobras (30%) and Genrent do Brasil Ltda (70%). The shareholding structure changed again in 2008, and as of December 2009, Brentech was owned by Petrobras (30%) and Enegen Participacoes (70%). Enegen was established as a partnership of the Israeli companies DELEK Infrastructures Ltd (Delek Group), with 51% of the shares, and MOKED Energy Ltd, with 49%. In 2006, the company took part in a competitive bidding process to sell electricity to the regulated wholesale market (15-year power purchase agreement was signed guaranteeing the sale of electricity to the national grid). Brentech Energia S.A. committed to invest approximately US$ 48.1 million (BRL 88 million) in the facility. In December 2008, the company was granted a US$ 41 million (BRL 75 million) loan contract from Santander Bank. In May 2010, the state-owned bank BNDES approved a US$ 42.5 million (BRL 76.6 million) loan to Brentech. Construction works on this plant were concluded in 2009. Sponsors names missing from the list
