Golden Dome missile defense shield

Planned

The Golden Dome missile defense shield is an ambitious $175 billion program aimed at creating a network of satellites to detect, track, and potentially intercept incoming missiles, primarily to block threats from China and Russia. The program includes a massive array of surveillance satellites and a separate fleet of attacking satellites to shoot down offensive missiles soon after lift-off. It is inspired by Israel's Iron Dome but is much more extensive. The program is led by U.S. Space Force General Michael Guetlein and involves potential contractors such as L3Harris Technologies, Lockheed Martin, and RTX Corp. The program is expected to benefit locations including Alaska, Florida, Georgia, and Indiana.
