The Golden Dome project is a $175 billion initiative to develop a vast satellite-based missile defense shield capable of detecting, tracking, and intercepting missile threats from adversaries such as China and Russia. It involves a constellation of surveillance and interceptor satellites, inspired by Israel's Iron Dome but more extensive, covering multiple continents and domains. The project aims to be fully operational by January 2029, with key defense contractors including L3Harris Technologies, Lockheed Martin, and RTX Corp. The US is seeking Japan's collaboration in the development of this missile defense technology.
