Description | The proposed 140-mile, 500-kilovolt Golden Pacific Powerlink from San Diego Gas & Electric would cut through California's largest state park, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. The transmission line would run from a substation in southeastern Imperial County near the Mexican border to a new substation on the border of Orange and San Diego counties near the Pacific Ocean, carving a steel-towered path through the park. The project is estimated to cost $2.3 billion and is part of California's transmission plan to connect major coastal population centers to renewable energy zones in the Imperial Valley. Construction is planned to begin in 2029 and the line is expected to go online in 2032. |
