Description

Description

Golden Pass LNG, a joint venture between QatarEnergy and ExxonMobil, has achieved first production of liquefied natural gas (LNG) at its first liquefaction train. Located in Sabine Pass, Texas, the three-train project will have a nominal capacity of approximately 18 million metric tons per annum when fully operational. The project is part of QatarEnergy's broader strategy to invest $20 billion in the U.S. energy sector and expand its global LNG portfolio alongside the North Field Expansion project in Qatar. The project faced construction delays and cost overruns, with the final cost about $10 billion, approximately $2 billion over budget. The lead contractor filed for bankruptcy in 2024, causing setbacks before new contractors resumed work. The other two trains are expected to come online in late 2026 and 2027.
