Description
Description | To address aging infrastructure, and effluent quality issues , and to ensure cost effective operations, the District has a long term strategy to decommission the existing Huntsville Mountview Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) (which does not meet Federal or Provincial Regulations) , and divert all Huntsville flows to the Golden Pheasant WWTP. This project will initiate the first phase of this long term strategy which is to upgrade the Golden Pheasant WWTP in preparation for accepting additional flows. The Golden Pheasant WWTP projects includes the following components: Upgrades to a septage receiving system to replace a dysfunctional system and enable monitoring of the load received to protect the treatment plant performance and reliability. Replacement of the existing jet aeration system with a fine bubble aeration system, to rehabilitate an aging system and improve reliability and efficiency. Modification and extension of the existing biological reactor to provide ability to reliably nitrify and produce a non-toxic effluent with respect to ammonia (to comply with provincial requirements), and to provide a de-nitrification cell to enhance energy efficiency and alkalinity recovery, to minimize the need for alkalinity addition to meet effluent pH criteria. Addition of a new chemical building and system for alkalinity addition to top up alkalinity (that cannot be fully recovered through denitrification) and reliability meet effluent pH criteria. Addition of a waste activated sludge (WAS) thickening facility to provide sludge management capacity at Golden Pheasant WWTP that will be required to accommodate Mountview WWTP flows. This approach is significantly lower cost than expanding anaerobic digester capacity that will otherwise be required. |
