Google Data Center in Hermantown

proposed

Google is planning a massive data center in Hermantown, Minnesota, which could eventually comprise up to 1.2 million square feet across 27.5 acres. The project is expected to be completed in up to four phases, with the first phase costing around $650 million. Google has offered to pay approximately $130 million for necessary public infrastructure and contribute $450,000 in annual taxes after completion, in exchange for a tax rebate totaling about $33.5 million over 28 years. The data center is expected to create at least 100 full-time jobs with salaries exceeding $75,000, along with hundreds of temporary construction jobs. The project faces opposition due to environmental concerns and legal challenges alleging zoning violations.
