Google is investing $15 billion in a massive data center hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, spanning 601 acres across three locations with a 1-gigawatt capacity. The project includes Google's own electricity distribution company (DISCOM) license, allowing it to operate its own power grid, directly procure power, optimize energy mix with renewable sources, and ensure near-perfect uptime. The project is in partnership with Adani Infra for construction and grid resilience, with the first phases expected to be commissioned by July 2028. Additionally, Google is collaborating with Bharti Airtel to install three high-capacity submarine cables and landing stations for international data connectivity.
