Description

Description

Wyoming’s Carmelite mountain monks are building a massive Gothic-style monastery in the mountains of the Bighorn Basin along Meeteetse Creek. The project uses modern technology such as computer-aided design software, high-tech stone-cutting machines, and 3D modeling technology to carve intricate designs into limestone, significantly reducing the construction time from an estimated 150 years to about 20 years. The monastery's chapel has been completed and is in use, with the next phase being the construction of the church stone by stone with the help of cranes and computers.
