Description

The Government of Thailand plans to invest THB52.9 billion between 2020-2035 to ensure sufficient water supply in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). The investment will cover 38 projects that will increase the capacity of the region’s water supply systems by an additional 872 million cubic metres of water annually. Construction of nine projects worth THB4.14 billion has already been completed as of August 2021, supplying an additional 174 million cubic metre of water. A total of 11 projects, valued at THB11.3 billion, are under construction, with completion dates between 2021 to 2024. These projects have the potential to provide the EEC with an additional 101 million cubic metres of water. An additional 18 projects, valued at THB37.5 billion, will provide the remaining 597 cubic metre to EEC’s water system. These are scheduled to commence construction between 2023 and 2030. The EEC’s annual water requirement is 1.295 billion cubic metres, with 47 per cent used for manufacturing, 34 per cent for agriculture irrigation, and the remainder for consumption.
