Description

Description

The project involves the construction of the 34MW GPM1 solar IPP, located in the Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region in northernmost Morocco. The project is being developed by Emirati developer AMEA Power, which is co-sponsoring alongside its local subsidiary Green Power Morocco (GPM). The project is being developed under Morocco's Law 13-09, which grants access to renewable energy projects to the national grid via low-, medium-, high-, and extra-high voltage connections. The power plant has a planned production of nearly 66,149 MWh of power per year and will supply clean and affordable power to more than 19,200 households, saving more than 39,888 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. A 25 year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) has been signed with Amendis, a subsidiary of Veolia Morocco, in charge of distribution of drinking water and electricity. The total value of the project is $36.8 million and Attijariwafa Bank is the only lender providing the $30.6 million debt. Financial close was reached and construction started on 26 July, 2022.
