Description | The Grain Belt Express is an 800-mile transmission line project designed to carry mostly wind-generated power from the Plains to parts of the Midwest power grid. It aims to connect four regional grids and deliver power from western Kansas to Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana, addressing soaring electricity demand and grid strain. The project has received permits from the four states it crosses and was set to begin construction next year. It would carry more than 5 gigawatts of power, enough to power 50 new data centers, and is projected to save consumers in 29 states $52 billion on energy bills. |
