Grain Belt Express Transmission Line

The Grain Belt Express is a planned high-voltage transmission line designed to deliver solar and wind-generated electricity from western Kansas through Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana to the eastern U.S. It aims to carry up to 5,000 megawatts of power, connecting four regional grids and improving grid reliability and energy cost savings. The project has received permits from the four states it crosses and was set to begin construction next year. However, the Trump administration canceled a $4.9 billion federal loan guarantee for the project, citing that it was not critical for the federal government to support it and questioning its financial viability. Despite the cancellation, the developer, Invenergy, indicated the project would proceed with private financing.
