Description | The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is Africa's largest hydroelectric project, towering 145 metres high and stretching nearly two kilometres across the Blue Nile near the Sudanese border. It is designed to hold 74 billion cubic metres of water and generate 5,000 megawatts of electricity, more than double Ethiopia's current capacity. The dam aims to provide electricity to nearly 55% of Ethiopia's population currently without access, boost industrial production, encourage electric vehicle adoption, and supply energy to neighboring countries through regional grids. |
