Description | The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is the largest hydropower project in Africa, rising 170 metres above the Blue Nile. It has a 5,150 MW installed capacity, more than doubling Ethiopia's electricity generation and providing clean energy for over 120 million citizens, with surplus power for export to neighboring countries. The project is a symbol of national self-reliance and energy sovereignty, financed 91% by Ethiopia's central bank and the rest through citizen bonds. |
