Description | This project includes the development of container terminal and harbor works located at Kawr Abdallah Channel in Al-Faw, Iraq. The Grand Al Faw port will have the capacity to handle 99 million tonnes of cargo per year. The port will have 7 km long quays with an 18-meter deep harbor and a 24km long dredged channel. The project will be carried out in phases. Phase I involves construction of five main piers, subsea tunnels that will link the Southern port of Faw with the nearby Umm Qasr Port, and new roads to improve communications with Basra. Phase II will see construction of 100 berths that will serve the port operations. Once complete, the port will be the largest in Middle-East with capacity to handle 7.5 million containers annually. |
