Description | The Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) gas project is a strategic energy partnership between Senegal and Mauritania. Operated by a consortium including BP, Kosmos Energy, Petrosen, and the Mauritanian Hydrocarbons Company (SMH), the project began production in January 2025 and exported its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo in April 2025. Phase 1 is designed to produce approximately 2.4 million tonnes of LNG annually for international and domestic markets. The project has created over 3,000 jobs and involved 300 local businesses since 2017. The current focus is on increasing production capacity and accelerating the second phase of the project. |
