Description

Description

The Grande Prairie Emergency Response and Activity Center Project (the Project) consists of the design and construction of a pre-engineered building to serve as emergency accommodations for City response to a large-scale emergency or disaster. The Project will provide the Grande Prairie community with a site built specifically to allow a better response to the pandemic situation. It will be a stand-alone site/structure built with all the amenities required for it to be used as an assessment centre by Alberta Health Services. The Project could also be used as a facility to meet legislated social distancing requirements for daytime/overnight accommodations for such users as the community’s vulnerable population following an overflow from the homeless shelter. The Project will allow the expansion of services should the need arise. By constructing it as generator ready, with power/water and sewer hookups on an outside wall, additional shower facilities, cooking facilities and sleeping quarters will be easily attachable as the demand increases. The interior design of the structure will also accommodate the requirements for self-isolation, negating the potential costly alternative of securing commercial accommodations in order to isolate users. The Project will allow the community to meet the requirements of Alberta Health Services. Additionally, the Project will better prepare the region for disaster response since the Grande Prairie community serves as a regional reception centre for other natural disasters in the northwest corner of the province when evacuees require accommodations.
