The Eurydice Portuguese Unit, integrated in a central service of the State's direct administration with administrative autonomy (DGEEC), must to play a relevant role in gathering, analyzing and disseminating information on education system and policies in Portugal,contributing to a better understanding of national educational practices, facilitating the cooperation and the comparison of educational data throughout Europe. It participates in Eurydice network, ensuring that the PT perspective is represented and considered in decisions and recommendations that emerge at European level (by giving input to scoping notes, validating data collection questionnaires, gathering information at national level and validating analysis, updating descriptions of the national education system, promoting reports at national level, taking part in quality assurance activities). The main objective of supporting Eurydice's national units is to provide to Commission regular, updated information, to support policy frameworks and emerging policy priorities, and to enhance cooperation in the Education and Training (ET) field in the Erasmus+ countries and others. Skills and competences required are varied and complementary, staff must be education specialists, experts in information management and communications, with ability to communicate in English (or other languages). It is required to reveal high level knowledge and understanding of national and European ET policy; high level of English language; ability to translate complex information from English to national language and vice versa and to gather information on topics ranging from early childhood to adult education, to identify and hire national experts; range of communications skills to promote Eurydice information at national level. Eurydice's Network central role is to support evidence-based European cooperation in ET, providing European-level analyses and supporting information to assist and facilitate the decision-making process.
