Grassy Mountain Gold and Silver Mine

Paramount Gold company plans to open Oregon's first cyanide-processed gold mining operation at the Grassy Mountain Gold and Silver Mine located about 20 miles southwest of Vale, Oregon. The underground mine will extract gold from ore blasted and drilled 500 to 1,000 feet below ground, using cyanide to separate gold from rock. The project area spans roughly 488 acres of mostly public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management, with less than 7 acres for the mine itself on mostly private land. The operation includes roads and facilities for storing spent chemicals, water, and rocks. The company expects construction to take two years, followed by seven to eight years of mining, four years of remediation, and 20 years of monitoring.
