It includes the development of a major transshipment port, an international airport, and supporting logistics and urban infrastructure near the Malacca Strait. The project aims to strengthen India's maritime presence, boost trade infrastructure, and expand geopolitical influence in the Indo-Pacific region. The first phase of the port, costing Rs 18,000 crore, is expected to be commissioned by 2028 with a handling capacity of over 4 million containers annually, eventually reaching 16 million containers per year. |
