Description

Description

The Regional Technical Assistance (RETA) will improve the ability of communities in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand, and Viet nam to prepare for, respond to, and recover from the negative impact of floods and droughts. The Project has prepared three separate investment projects (CAM, LAO, VIE) to provide financing for appropriate flood risk management and drought risk management interventions in each country. The outcome of the Project is the improved ability of communities and governments to prepare for, respond to, and recover from flood and drought events. Key activities of the RETA are (i) identifying and prioritizing flood and drought issues in each country (including CAM, LAO, VIE and THA) through the development of a regional and national road-maps for improved flood and drought risk management; (ii) developing a prioritized program of structural and nonstructural FRM and DRM interventions in each country; and (iii) preparing feasibility studies for national investment programs in Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Viet Nam based on the county-specific prioritized program of interventions. The ensuing loans for CAM, LAO and VIE were approved in Quarter 4 2012. Remaing RETA resources are being used in 2013 to support the respective EAs in project start-up activities.
